Futuristic studio recording techniques

Analog studio equipment glowing in the dark

Employing state-of-the-art technology and innovative production methods, the new records were tracked through a hybrid chain: vintage oscillators and spring reverbs on the way in, surgical digital editing on the way out, and a final mix printed back to two-inch tape.

Standout tricks include re-amping soft synths through guitar cabinets in the stairwell, recording the studio's own mains hum as a drone layer, and bouncing entire mixes to cassette for the choruses that needed to sound "remembered rather than heard."

A full gear diary with signal chains for every track is available to newsletter subscribers — along with downloadable stems from the Collapse sessions.
